From Booklist
This introduction to weather is aimed at level 1 readers and addresses the basics of clouds, wind, lightning and thunder, etc. The first chapter invites readers to “Look Up at the Sky†and makes the point that if you’re peering out the window to see if it’s raining or sunny, then you are checking the weather. “Flat, gray clouds†means it’s likely to rain, but white, fluffy clouds indicate a beautiful day. Glossary terms are defined in boxes throughout (a “droplet†is a “very small bit of liquidâ€) and each of the short chapters includes a joke (“What did the cloud say to the lightning bolt?â€*) Bright backgrounds feature crisp photographs and a concluding quiz invites readers to identify weather-related images. Cheerfully designed and with large typeface throughout, this will draw beginning readers who enjoy nonfiction. As an added incentive, the title is part of the National Geographic Super Readers program, which allows kids to download prizes and extras as a reward for reading. (*“You’re shocking!â€) Preschool-Grade 2. --Ann Kelley

My 2 year old LOVES this entire series of Nat. Geo Readers... I have purchased about 25 different titles, "pre-readers" as well as Level 1 & 2 readers. She loves them all & will ask for certain ones. The "pre-readers" level books are extremely simple & great because she memorizes the words & can "read" it herself. We love the more advanced ones too, because there is more information to talk about. I have learned quite a few facts, myself!) What a great series. The price is reasonable & pictures are great. These are really getting her interested in nature, animals & science... I will continue to buy these as they are released, for our collection!
My preschooler LOVES interesting weather. This book is a little misleading though -- the tornado on the cover isn't really the kind of weather this book is about. Inside is filled with pictures of kids playing in the pool in the sun, or in the rain, etc. I thought this was going to be a kid-friendly version of pics and descriptions of tornadoes, hurricanes, that kind of thing. He's pretty bored with this one after just a couple read throughs.
he loves the pictures, but it is a QUICK read. not a lot of info in this little book. for the price its alright. for any kid really into weather this book wont hold their attention. still a very cute book for the price.
My 4 yr old is obsessed with these books. He loves the images and jokes as well as the vocab. He’s a nerd but the book is great. It’s informative, thought provoking and nicely designed.
This isn't really a book. More like a pamphlet maybe? Very short. Information is okay but if you are expecting a nice book you will be disappointed!
Our two and half year olds are very keen on commenting upon the weather every day - the sky is overcast, it is sunny today,. . .and so on. We got them this book, and we all love it ! You can't go wrong with National Geographic. Toddler-and-parents approved
Excellent nonfiction book including text features for the young reader.
I bought this Weather children's book for my 81 year old mother. She loves looking at and learning about weather so I thought she would enjoy this. She did. It's a well written book and gives a lot of information about all kinds of weather.
