This textbook and reference contains 171 full-color photomicrographs with short morphological descriptions useful to novice and experienced hematologists. It provides "the fundamentals for recognizing the normal and abnormal morphological features of blood cells of the common domestic species, including dogs, cats, horses, ruminants, and llamas." The book also contains: bibliographic references to information on morphological features, additional diseases, and pathophysiological states not described in the book; a glossary of terms; and two appendices that present methods used in the Purdue University Veterinary Teaching Hospital Clinical Pathology Laboratory for semiquantitation of some of the morphological abnormalities. They offer "useful guidelines to reproducibly record morphological abnormalities that may be present in a blood smear."

Sure it's not the 'latest and greatest' but I couldn't have made it through hematology without it! It has wonderful pictures and clear basic descriptions. No, it doesn't have all the information you will need but it does give you a good starting point and lets you identify what you're seeing. A must for anyone just learning how to read blood smears, or anyone who wants a good reference on hand!
I reference this book all the time!
I continue to use this book even after my classes. It is a great reference and has clear pictures. I do wish it had more pictures of artifact, such as humidity, so that it is easier to interpret blood smears when you first begin reading them.
Good book to get it help with lots of stuff.
My husband purchased this book for me 2 semesters ago as I was struggling & frustrated by my Hematology courses. I credit this book with saving me! It made all the complex new ideas make sense, and with it's color plates & simple diagrams, made it easy to understand & visualize veterinary hematology.I recommend this book to all veterinary science student, and to those in practice who desire to know more about hematopoeisis.
Good illustrations and text. Very helpful and handy in a clinical setting.
