I really liked this book. In it, when it comes to making it a stand alone book, the author does not go overboard in describing previous characters and incidents like he has done in the past. This was greatly appreciated. The storyline moves fast and is very well done. A true pleasure to read. However, there is a tendency to overrun sentence structures. One paragraph that could easily have been made into three sentences was one long sentence long instead. His typos are really quite irritating, although there are not too many of them. For instance, "... he quickly shed his gear and climbed up, pulling the Annette up behind him." "The" Annette? Again, not too many of them, but just too many to be in a five star book, in my opinion. Also, he will use a word that can be used appropriately, but... it still makes it awkward. Such as, "that, that." In the sentence: "...any time after that that your're ready." He has done this a few times and it is a little confusing. One of the typos I found to be actually on the amusing side was, "... sheriff's separtment patrol boat." It is just little things, but these are done enough times that I did feel I had to take one star off. A shame, because it was one of his best books. I would definitely recommend it, though, and think it is well worth reading for a quick read.
Somehow, I've completed the entire Jesse McDermitt series and overlooked "Fallen King". As with all the other books in this series, I thoroughly enjoyed the story. This one did take some time to launch, but once it started, you'll have to finish it before putting it down. The cast of characters are well developed, and readers are taken back to earlier times to ensure they know everything about that character.I especially like the "Rules for dating a Marine's daughter" and thought they were hilarious! But, no doubt, true in every sense. In this story, a Miami-based Haitian gang is going outside of the norm (drugs, prostitution, weapons, etc.) and using grenades to damage the ecosystems around Key West. It soon sinks in that the gang is trying to draw Jesse out of hiding, and this is why the thugs are operating in his neighborhood. His connections in the Homeland Group soon learn that an old foe of Jesse's is manipulating the gang so she can get even with him for an earlier encounter when treasure hunting. Kim develops a love life and goes out on her first date. Then the fireworks begin, and Jesse discovers that his "personal island" isn't as defensible as he thought.Great story and highly recommended. Everyone should read all six books in the series - first-timers should start at #1 to keep characters and events straight. Looking for another Jesse story to come. Great job, Mr. Stinnett!John Podlaski, authorCherries - A Vietnam War Novel
Having lived in the upper Keys for a few years, I really enjoyed the backdrop for this series. The first books were well-paced and interesting, but Fallen King misses the mark. It is about one third "cut and paste" from a previous book and too predictable. The author needs to take a break and create some new story lines,
Each book is separate from the other books , but they follow characters from other books. The author is able to bring the reader up on the characters involved to make the book a stand alone book, but I would recommend reading the series in the order they were written. I give this book a five star rating.
My husband is dyslexic but enjoys books immensely so I read to him off of my kindle We are on the 11th book in the series FALLEN and I have enjoyed each and everyone. They are all unique and have a totally different story line which keeps things mixed up and interesting!Love this author everybody and will look for more books from him. Five stars
Another Jessie McDermitt novel that didn't disappoint. These novels are quite accurate from the nautical and aviation aspects which adds credibility. Jessie, while tough, also recognizes that he isn't quite like the warrior he once was. Not a surprise for most of us as we age. Regardless, another book in the "Fallen" series is very good and it creates the desire to continue the series. It's always a pleasure to place oneself in the Keys vicariously as you immerse into the book.
Another fast paced adventure with Jessie and friends. Based on his own little island paradise this Marine does his best to maintain the peace as he enjoys the waves and the fishing in the waters of the Content Keys. Sit back, relax and get ready to have a new favorite author!
Read this book-you won't be disappointed. Mr Stinnett's writing and story line get better with every book. He cranked up the action gradually and then at the peak of the suspense I couldn't put it down. I had to know how it end (no spoiler alert). The attention to detail was amazing, from boats to fishing to weapons along with military procedures. There are numerous strong female characters. You can read this without having read the previous books in the series and be able to follow the story, but why would you want to?
