This may be more a product of the fact that beyond eating and laying on the beach there is little to do in Jamaica, but I purchased the book to learn more about the Montego Bay area and was very disappointed by the limited information provided. Had I known there was only 26 pages for the region and only 12 for the Bay area proper I was have just relied on the tourism board information. Pricey for little direct information.
I bought this to plan an upcoming trip to Jamaica and it helped me decide which areas to visit and what to do while I'm there. I'm always a fan of Lonely Planet guides.
Who WRITES these things??? "Get involved in a dance-crew and have a dance off! Grind with total strangers in a foreign country!" I need a guidebook written by someone who is there to see the country (Introvert's Guide? Parent's Guide?) That said, this gave us a good overview of what is available in what regions, which is not found so easily on the internet. It had us dismiss the idea of renting a car (driving on the other side of the road.) It's useful enough, but I wish we'd just checked it out from a library.
Not bad. Wished there were more pictures. Information useful but could be more detailed. My husband's Japanese guide book had way more information. If they could put in a section with much more detail for Montego Bay and recommedations for taxi drivers with reasonable prices.btw, looking for a reasonable taxi in Motego bay? Try Rasta Paul Taxi and Bus tours 876-439-2230More info about how to not get ripped off because you look foreign. And a few more restaurants with veggie options would help.
I wanted a guide to Jamaica. This will give the reader an over-view of Jamaica. This was the most current publication but not complete. I would have liked to have had listings of best places for sightseeing and a list for avoiding certain sites.
This had really good specific tips in it and was better than the other travel guides. It became the coveted book, and when I left I bought a copy of it as a wedding present for my friends who moved to Kingston!
Purchased this book for a trip to Jamaica. Proved to be a handy companion whilst meandering and exploring the taxi-laden hills of Jamaica. Of course...step of the path whenever possible!!!Wonderful country. Amazing people. Unforgettable memories!!! Yeh MON!!! Definitely.
You will find many descriptive places to visit. Places to stay and eat too. I think this book is worth the money.
